Battery problem on Windows7 RRS feed

  • Hello,

    I wonder what has happened on my notebook. I installed Windows7 few months back and gradually my batteries are going down. Now a days, I am getting less than 30 minutes backup but on Windows XP, these batteries were giving me more than 2 hours backup.

    I created Power Efficiency Diagnostics Report from command prompt but could not understand it. I can see Battery:Last Full Charge (%) in Error section. Could anybody help me to understand this report and resolve the issue if it is some setting problem?

  • It's complicated- it has to do with how Windows 7 reads the battery information. On Vista era computers and back, the battery manufacturers had different specifications to build.

    You see the desgin capacity at 47520 and last full charge at 14947. ~30% life remaining. That indicates that the battery has performed enough power cycles to have lost quite a bit of power time.

    This is what Windows 7 is reading from the hardware and BIOS. It may not be the actual status of the battery. But, for Windows 7 it is.

    Try the A14 BIOS, Dell system software under utilities, and the Dell quickset for your version of Windows 7.

    There are some other threads here on TechNet relevant to this issue. The computer that you have is new enough, that the state of the battery is probably accurate.

    Adjust your power plan to achieve longer runtimes-turn off the LAN nic when connected wirelessly, turn-off the bluetooth, when it is not connected.
