DSQUERY - Intermittent Failure

    Question

  • I support a small school with a simple 3 Win Serv 2008 (R1) server setup  (DC/AD/Exchange, File Server & Update Server).

    I have an Auto-IT script running on the file server that executes a simple DSQUERY command up to 200 times per day via sendkeys at a CMD prompt . It all works great 99% of the time, but once every few days, DSQUERY fails with "Server not Operational".  Some observations;

    • I can ping AD server OK during these outages
    • I know problem is not with my script, since a manual DSQUERY fails the same way
    • Logging off/on the file server does not fix the issue
    • During these problems, I can execute a DSQUERY OK on all other servers
    • Problem goes away after about 5 or 10 minutes without any intervention

    Any ideas ?

  • Hi,

    Based on your description, I would suggest you capture network traffic to see if there has some error information when execute the command.

    Also, please check event viewer on DNS/DCs to see if there have some error events logged.

    Best Regards,

    William
