Printer mappings via GPO Preferences - "No printers were found" error

    Question

  • Hello,

We're running an internal domain with functional level of Server 2008 R2.

We recently migrated some print queues from a 2008 R2 print server to a new 2012 R2 server.  Old printer mappings were deleted, and new ones added via GPO Preferences.

Following these changes, most users are getting their new printer queues OK when logging in to our Remote Desktop farm.  However, a small number of users have had the following error pop up:

Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709).  Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network.

Some users getting this error have their printers mapped fine.  However, others are missing printers!

If printers are missing, the following Warning appears in the Event Log on the Remote Desktop server:

Source: Group Policy Printers, Event ID: 4098, "Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070bc4 No printers were found'"

I've noticed that trying to manually map the missing printers in the user's session only works if I browse to the 2012 R2 print server by IP address (and not NETBIOS name or FQDN).

Any help on resolving this would be appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance,

    IR88
