remembering user name @ welcome screen RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

When I start the computer, it asks me for the user name and the password.

Is there a way so windows 7 can remember the user name?

    Thank you.

    WindowsKey+R will open the 'Run'-window
    type: control userpasswords2 <enter>
    That opens the 'User accounts'-window
UNtick the line 'Users must enter ....... to use this computer' en press
    the Apply-button.
Now you can specify which user+password will logon automatically.

Sorry, that site is in error :-(
    In Win7 it is: Winkey+R -> type: control userpasswords2 , that will
    open the window

  • Hi

    Thank you,

It opened a window, but I can not find a place where I tell him to remember the user name and display it on the welcome screen.

Now when I want to log in to windows - it asks me to enter both user name and password.

I am looking for a way that the windows will automatically show the user name, and I just enter the password.

    Thank you.

    Hi yuvta

It sounds like there may be a Policy set on that system.

    Open Gpedit.msc and navigate to:

    Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options.

Look for the policy, Interactive Logon: Do not display last user name.

Double click that policy and set it to Disabled.

    Reboot to see the effect.

    Hope this helps.

Thank You for using Windows 7
