Outlook 2013 "This contact group contains more members than supported" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a client that is receiving the following error when creating a distribution list of over 400 contacts:

This contact group contains more members than supported when using Microsoft Outlook 2007 service pack 1 or earlier.

The client is using Outlook 2013 with Office 365.

Has anyone seen this and what is the resolution?

Answers

  • This is Expected Behaviour and a limitation of distribution lists that are created and stored in a Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox store or in a personal folders (.pst) file. There is no definite limit to the number of contacts that you can add to a distribution list. The exact limit is based on the total file size of the contacts.

There is an old documented with Microsoft and applies to Outlook 2010/2013 as well. The information of best practice is included it. Thanks.

  • So is it safe to ignore this message if you are using Outlook 2010?
