SCOM 2007 R2 Disk fragmentation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have a question about SCOM 2007 R2, the base OS (2003 or 2008) Mgmt Pack, Logical Disk Fragmentation.

The Server 2003 and 2008 Base OS Mgmt Pack contains a monitor for Logical disk fragmentation. This monitor evaluates every local drive availalble on the server.

I tried to achieve this through an override but this option isn't available.

Is it possible to change the montior (through overrides or ...) to monitor only C:\ and D:\ and skip te rest ?

If yes, can someone please point me in the right direction?

If no, are there other ways to achieve this ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi

I understand now - no, this isn't possible in one step in the GUI.

    You'll need to:

    - create dynamic groups of disks - so a dynamic group of c:\ drives then dynamic group of d:\drives etc

    - apply the relevnat override to each group

    Cheers

  • Hi

Not sure what you mean by override option isn't available. If you go to the monitor (authoring, management pack objects, monitors) - find the windows 200x logical disk class and drill down through performance to find the logical disk monitor - you can right click and override for .. your usual options. Note - you have to override each OS seperately.

You can create a group of disks an set an override for the group.

Some more info on this monitor:

  • Hi Graham,

Thanks for the quick reply. Awesome. Very helpful link but that's not what I mean.

What I meant with 'override option not available', I don't see an option the isolate specific drives in Windows. Let's say my server has C:\, D:\, E:\ and F:\. Currently, SCOM checks all four drives for Logical Disk Fragmentation while I only want scom to check, warn and alert on drives C:\ and D:\ and ignore E:\ and F:\.

    Is that possible.

    Thanks again  :)

  • Hello,

    1. Create a dynamic group for C: and D:
    2. Create an override for the monitor and disable it for all object of the class
    3. Create another override for a group of objects (created in step 1) and selcet Enabled = "True" on the monitor with "Enforce" option.

    Hope this can help!!
