How do I create AdminComponent? Error "search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component". RRS feed

  • Question

  • So, I am having this same error in the FAST installation and configuration process. While reading this forum, it seems that nobody bumped into the same scenario as me, so I might as well raise the question in a topic, hope anyone found the solution:

    - Environment and steps thus far (roughly, cant remember all):

    • Single Dev server SP2010 box (VMWare)
    • Installation of SharePoint went fine
    • Installation config wizard of FAST went fine
    • Now, I imported the self-signed certificate and configured a Query SSA via CA, which looks fine. It probably does, because it doesn't need the "admin component" (just a thought not sure)
    • However, when attempting creation of the FAST Content SSA and trying to look up its properties (in other words, just going to the Search Admin page, the search status gives the above error.
    • When browsing the Internet, none of the solutions worked. Most of them pointing at a SSL misconfiguration cause, but after performing the workarounds nothing changed to good.
    • I bumped into this great article which Partially helped,  and seems to make more sense: the Admin Component is "missing" for some odd reason!
    • Now, when I verify and try to recreate the AdminComponent via PShell the initial errormessage returns :(
    • So, now I have two possible solutions/options: one is to recreate the admincomponent via PShell, the other one is to find someone with the other magic resolution.

    ANyone?

  • Hi,

First of all, that tone will not get you anywhere. People who answer here do it on their spare time for free. If you want urgent help file a support ticket with Microsoft.

Have you tried to delete and re-create the Content SSA? Have you added the appropriate users to FASTSearchAdministrators? What does the ULS log show you during setup and when accessing the page getting the error?

    Thanks,
