Exchange 2010 - Single Name Domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • We presently have a single name domain 'local' and are looking to transition from Exchange 2007 w/SP3 to Exchange 2010 w/SP1 on to our domain, is this a supported scenario and are there any points of concern I need to be aware of or looking out for?

If this is not a supported scenario what would be the best way to go about upgrading our infrastructure? The domain rename tool is not supported with an Exchange 2007 server so I assume we'll need to create a new domain, can we then install Exchange 2010 on to that new domain and provide access to the users who remain on the single name 'local' domain or will we need to move these users to the new domain (ie will Exchange 2010 allow users on a single name domain to access their mailboxes and the limitation is limited only to the domain on which the Exchange 2010 server itself resides)?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Dan Woodhouse
