Upgrade FIM Reporting to MIM RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have to upgrade a FIM deployment that includes FIM Reporting, to MIM. Are there any "gotchas" to be aware of? This will actually be a new install of MIM (on new servers), but pointing to the existing SQL databases. The SQL databases will not be moving and are on SQL Server 2014 SP1. The FIM portal server also has the SCSM Management Server installed on it, so this will have to be reinstalled on the new MIM portal server.

  • So what was your experience? How did you do the upgrade?

  • I don't think it's been done. I think the issue was around SCSM - the version they had, and what MIM would support and what was supported on their selected Windows platform. I think that situation has resolved itself with the passage of time :-)

  • I've recently completed a Reporting migration going from

    - SCSM 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 to SCSM 2016 (UR4) on Windows Server 2012 R2
    - SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2

It was challenging, but I got there in the end! Let me know if I can help at all.

  • so what were the high level steps you did for the upgrade? to a new system

    I am thinking

    1. On SQL server copy over DBs related to SCSM?
    2. On new server, Win 2016, install SCSM? Wonder if it does a detects exisitng DB and does a DB upgrade like the way for FIM upgrade?

    Or did you

    1. Install SCSM 2016 on new server (to fresh DBs)
    2. Upgrade the FIM
