Can't add tasks RRS feed

  • Question

  • Sometimes I create a project and it won't let me add tasks in the browser. Where you would normally click on the next empty row and type a task name... it doesn't let me type, and the selection box is gray (instead of the normal green). It does this to me if I try to create an enterprise project in the browser. If I create the project in Project Professional and then save to web app... that will let them subsequently edit the project in the browser and add tasks, just fine.

    - Projects
    - Project Tab -> New -> Enterprise Project
    - Give the project a name and click finish
    - Takes me to Schedule tab where I should be able to do things like add tasks or make changes
    - Click into the next blank row, and try to type a task name. But it won't let me

Why are you trying to create projects in the browser when you already have Microsoft Project Professional?  I do not know the source of your problem with the browser, but it would be entirely eliminated if you simply planned and managed each of your projects in Microsoft Project Professional.  Just a thought.  Hope this helps.

  • Yeah I know it's better/easier to work in Project Professional. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to work in the browser as well. And I will have users try to do it and then ask me why it's not working and be frustrated.

  • That is weird.  What happens if you try with a different browser.

  • Thanks for talking with me Ben!

So we agree it's not user error (it's about time it wasn't my fault!), and I can't seem to add tasks in the browser until I've saved/published in Project Professional at least once.

    So I'm going to:

    - See if we have all the latest updates to Project Server 2016, and check Brian Smith's blog to see the list of current updates

    - See if my company has Support in our contact with Microsoft, and if so, ask them.
