I've seen this problem around here a bit, and it doesn't seem like there is any known solution. Plain Vista 32 bit, just a basic desktop, using ATI graphics adapter with latest drivers and completely up to date Vista SP1.
Every so often, the screen goes black, and then it resumes with the error "Desktop Window Manager has stopped working". It just started recently, no real changes (that I know of)
