  • Hi,

Have you recently modified any settings on window server 2008 R2 or workgroup windows XP host?

You might like to check if it accessible with clean the stored user names and passwords on workgroup computer and re access.

Meanwhile ,please check the groups policies which applied to this widows server 2008 R2 host and make sure “Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares” setting is disabled.

    This setting is under path :Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\

No I did not modify anything on the windows server 2008 R2 all the settings are intact. File and Printer Sharing is on in the firewall. I don't have any problem to the domain clients connecting to this win2k8 R2 machine, only to those who are in workgroup network, weither winxp, vista and win7 cannot access it. Before if client pc is not a member of a domain they use domainname\domainusername in the user login. but now upon clicking the computername of the server it say \\computername is not accessible.

  • Hi everyone any help about this?

I will explain it again what problem is.

I have windows 2008 R2 Machine, serve as File Storage Server. This machine is a member of our internal domain controller, So those client who are also member of domain controller has no problem accessing to the shared folder of this File Storage Server. But those who are not member of the domain or workgroup clients are experiencing "\\Servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The trust relationship berween this workstation and the primary domain failed." Before when they access this File Storage Server machine the Logon window pop-up and they input this "domainname\username and password" and it works.

    Additional Info:

We have a mixed network in our office, we have internal domain clients and a workgroup clients. Most of the workgroup member are Home edition or Home basic windows edition.
