Adding an Edge server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

We are currently investigating to add an Edge server to our network.

    Our current setup is:
    2x DC (Server 2012 R2)
2x HUBCAS Exchange 2013 with DB sync (Server 2012 R2)

I cannot find an article on how to add a Edge server to an existing network and transfer the settings or other data which is needed.

    Can anyone help me out?

  • After installing it, you typically create a subscription with the mailbox servers in that AD site:

Do user also get impact of this? Will their Outlook connect to the HUBCAS or to the EDGE server?
And can EDGE servers also be load balancing just like the Databases?

Mail clients do not connect to the Edge Role. Its typically in a DMZ and by definition is not part the Exchange Org. It handles SMTP connections only.

There is no replication of Edge server databases. You can put multiple Edge Role servers behind a load balancer however and use the LB FQDN VIP as a single connection point for SMTP servers (typically from the internet)

You can also send outbound mail from Exhcange through the Edge. The subscriptions enable all of that. Read through that link for more info.
