Replica Volume Sizes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I don't understand why, if i have 50GB of total data that needs to be 'initially replicated' to the replica volume, that DPM would allocate 250GB of space to the replica volume.  When is the replica volume going to grow?  my VHD's are all standard disks.  i can understand the recovery point volumes growing, but not the replica.  Can you explain how this could possibly grow, i feel i'm missing something.

  • When you check the replica you will see replica volume allocated and used.

The used space is the actual size of the replica and what is consuming of the disk. That includes all the changes saved in the replica through sync.

While allocated is what the replica might take through your prection retention (the ratio is calculated by 10% changes per day of the data that you are protecting I GUESS)

So VHD files that is 50 GB + changes that is placed in the used.

Allocated is 50 GB + changes during your retention period.

this is the total that the replica consume from your volume.

    Hope that helped.

  • Hi,

could you verify inside your protection group options if the box "Enable data co-location" has been ticked or not?

That box will create a common volume for replicas and recovery points for your VMs and then that's why it could allocate that much space.
