# Functions supported by FIM Function evaluator Workflow activity

• ### Question

• I was having a problem using the Length function in a FIM Workflow activity and got the following answer:

Length isn't a function supported by the FIM Function evaluator Workflow activity. (Which is frustrating).

I find this be very true. It just leads me to wonder what other functions are not support and if there is any reference for this. I would rather not find out through trial and error.

Thanks, J.Greene

• Hi,

there is not function called Length in the function evaluator library:

• If you let us know what you are trying to accomplish we might be able to help using other means. For example the Mid, Left and Right functions are only useful if your string length's are fixed. But if you have delimitters -- or something you want to pretend is a delimiter you can use the Word function.

I had to break apart some Geo data:

"Point -10.1223 45.945"

"Point -10.1223453333 45.945111113"

Word(GeoData,2," ") gives me -10.1223 for the first row and -10.1223453333 for the second row

Word(GeoData,3," ") gives me 45.945 for the first row and for the second: 45.945111113

Suppose the data was slightly different a comma instead of space in between.

"Point -10.1223,45.945"

"Point -10.1223453333,45.945111113"

Now I can add delimitters in addition to space I can put in a comma:

Word(GeoData,2," ,") gives me -10.1223 for the first row and -10.1223453333 for the second row

Word(GeoData,3," ,") gives me 45.945 for the first row and for the second: 45.945111113
