  • hi all 

    am new to sharepoint and need to change the layout of existing master page

    in the existing layout the side of the page cannot be used and all the contents are palced in the center

    how do i change this

    Could you open the master page in SharePoint Designer? First of all, make a copy of master page. Then open master page, in Tag Properties at left-bottom of it, you can change alignment. Please refer to this for more information: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7GNCYLbxmw .

    There are few suggestions:

    1. Copy the default masterpage and edit the copied masterpage in the SharePoint Designer. So here, you can change the layouts according to your requirement.

    2. As you mentioned you need to hide the left navigation, you can hide it using a simple code.

    <div class="ms-quickLaunch" style="display:none">
    

     will hide the Quick Launch of the sharepoint site.
