SCCM 2012 Client will not install on XP Workstations RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a 2008 R2 SP1 server with Configuration Manager installed and I setup my Client Push Installation. I tried it on 2 Windows 7 workstations and it worked fine. I just can't get it to install on an XP machine.

    The ccmsetup.log is showing:

  • It shows 531KB on my lab.

This file doesn't come from the ConfigMgr install but instead comes from the pre-requisite downloads that you perform during initial site server installation. Try downloading those again with setupdl.exe.

  • From the log above:

    "Couldn't verify 'C:\WINDOWS\ccmsetup\msrdcoob_x86.exe"

    and

    "File C:\WINDOWS\ccmsetup\msrdcoob_x86.exe size is 0"

Looks like this file was corrupted and you'll need to replace it. This didn't affect your Win 7 deployments because they were probably x64.

  • I downloaded Configuration Manager from microsoft again and copied msrdcoob_x86.exe into the install folder. The file still shows 0 K.

I noticed in windows 7 install log it did not need that file.

  • Jason nailed it, this is a common misunderstanding.  The installation media has zero-byte files that are replaced by the downloaded versions at setup time, so the client must be installed using the files on the site that are then copied to the MP/DP.
