XP Pro networking with Win 7 RRS feed

    Dear All,

    I have trawled through most of the postings here but my problem persists.

    I cannot access my Win 7 (X64) from my XP Pro on the same WORKGROUP network.

    1) I have enabled Network Discovery, disabled password protection and turned on / off the homegroup feature on my Win 7 PC.

    2) I could see the icon for Win 7 PC on the network from other XP Pro, but could not access it despite having allowed all "full control" with the Win 7 Advanced Sharing option.

    3) The only thing I could access in Win 7 is the public folders - not the C (OS) or D (data) drives - which had been marked as "fully shared".

    4) My Win 7 admin account does not even have a password.


    RELATED QUESTION:

    My Win 7 PC could see all the XP Pro but could access some of them (those without an account password).

    Some with account password, Win 7 simply advises "access not possible" without prompting a logon screen so that I can at least have a chance to enter the right logon details.

    Any ideas on how to fix this glitch ?

    Hi,

    As you can see the public folder, it should not be a connection issue but a permission issue.

    First please type connect the computer but not directly to the D drive.

    Please use \\computername or \\ipaddress of the target computer to see if we can get the logon screen.

    If so, input correct user name and password so that we should able to see all shared folders.

    Try access the Drive C or D to see the result.

    If issue still exists please provide a screenshot of the error on Windows XP computer.

    Homegroup is not applicable to you.  Homegroup is only for networking between Win 7 computers (i.e., all of the computers in a homegroup have to have Win 7).

    You need to have an account on the Win 7 computer with a password .  You can then access the Win 7 computer from an account on the XP Pro computer with the same name and password .

    On the XP Pro computer, disable "Simple File Sharing" from Windows Explorer Tools menu > Folder Options > View.  Access from Win 7 should then be possible, at least from an account that has the same name/password as one on the XP box.

    Thanks.

    Win 7 now has a password-protected account. You have to logon after rebooting.

    "Simple file sharing" is un-selected in XP Pro (has been so already)

    Homegroup is disabled (left).

    Problem remains:

    1) I can see Win 7 PC, split down to C (OS) and D (data) drives but once clicked on the D drive, I get the message "not accessible" with no logon screen to enter username / password.

    Is there something else I missed ?
