Lync server install on windows 2008 R2 SP1 fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am installing Lync 2010 standard on Windows Server enterprise 2008R2 SP1 .

The install runs fine until I get to step 2 "Setup or Remove Lync Components."

It fails on Prerequisite check for a Media-Format-Package.

    My server has: Microsoft-Windows-Media-Format-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7601.17514.mum

It appears to be looking for a pre SP1 package.

Any ideas on how to get past this?

  • Adding the desktop experience and rebooting the box worked. I dont think its a great solution, but it worked.

  • I have the same exact issue. I believe it is specific to SP1 because yesterday during another test install I had no issue installing it on a Windows 2008 R2 Standard box.

  • This is a link to another post that appears to outline the fix. I am trying it out now.

  • You don't need to deploy the full Desktop experience (there is way too much that is not required by Lync Server in there).

Lync Server just needs the Windows Media Format Runtime (for a Frontend with Conferencing), and here is how to install  just WMF:

    %systemroot%\system32\dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:%windir%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-Media-Format-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7601.17514.mum /ignorecheck

    A reboot is required here
