"Class not registered" opening pdf file in Chrome RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running Windows 10 on a Surface Pro 3. My default browser is Google Chrome. I used to be able to open a pdf file by right-clicking its file name in File Explorer, and selecting

    Open with > Google Chrome

but now I get the error

    "Class not registered"

Pdf files open fine in Chrome if I do it through a web link (http://...), or even if I use a file link (file:///C:/Users/...).

  • Hi UncleOli,

According to your description, I suggest that we could try run SFC scan. System File Checker (sfc) scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer. Please check the link below to follow the steps.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

Then we could check if the issue persists in safe mode, to boot the computer in safe mode follow the below steps:

    1. Restart the computer and press and hold F8 key (Press and hold f8 key before the windows logo).

    2. From the advanced boot option select ‘Safe mode’.

If these steps don’t work, we could try change the registry to repair. Please refer to the link below to follow the steps.
