VM creation using existing VHD in powershell 2.0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

we have worked on powershell 3.0 to create VMs on hyper-V using cmdlets(new-vm).

We didn't find cmdlets in powershell 2.0 to create VM on Hyper-V using existing VHD. please help us in this regard.

  • The cmdlets are not, as such, PowerShell v2 or v3, but are based on the OS. Server 2012 comes with the PowerShell cmdlets (these utterly rock!), but are not available for earlier OSs.SCVMM also has a set of cmdlets.

You can look at James O'neill's Hyper-V cmdlet set over on Codeplex. See: http://trycatch.be/blogs/roggenk/archive/2010/02/08/powershell-management-library-for-hyper-v-r2.aspx for more details on these.

Having said that, I'd really urge you to upgrade your VM farm to Server 2012. There is SOOOOO much more there!
