Converting Briefing Books, 'My Views', etc. from SS2000 to SS2005 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I understand the MDX differences between a SS2000 cube and a SS2005 cube.  I am trying to find out is whether there is a means available, e.g., a software utility, that would allow us to update existing pages in any of our books (published, BBKs, My Views) that would convert the MDX dimensional references from the SS2000 syntax to the SS2005 syntax.  In effect, I am looking for a utility that would behave just like the utility behaves for 'Change Connection Options'.  I would state that any page referencing [Time] should be modified to [Time].[Time].  Or any page referencing [Attribute] should be modified to reference [Merchandise].[Attribute], etc.

I will take any information that could help convert the existing views/pages without causing more stress that converting them manually one at a time.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Dave,

MDX queries designed for AS 2000 should run against SSAS 2005.  Of course, this mostly depends on how you migrated your data and designed your cubes.  I recommend taking a look at the migration considerations in BOL linked below.  Make sure you've supported older AS query needs in 2005.  Again, you might want to weigh the cost of supporting older queries with the cost of building and maintaining support for the older structure in SSAS - see the second link.  Finally, you might be able to open up the ProClarity BBK files in XML and change the MDX paths manually - although this isn't tested or supported.
