Disable autoplay on a drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I hope this is the right forum where post this question...
Is it possible to disable autoplay foe a specific drive or partition? i installed Mediafour Macdrive, a program that permit you to explore and work on HSF mac formatted harddisks, but even if they are 3 internal partitions of an HD, windows at any logon ask you for autoplay on these partitions... very annoying.
In Xp there was, if my brain is right, a utility called tweakui that did the job...

  • Hi, Marbur:

I don't know which version of Windows 7 you are running, if it is Windows 7 Ultimate, Business or Enterprise you can follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc, and hit ENTER.

    2. Expand Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, AutoPlay Policies.

    3. Double click Turn off Autoplay (it's on the right).

    4. Select Enabled and choose an option from the Turn off Autoplay on drop down list.

If your version of Windows 7 doesn't have Gpedit.msc, you still can turn off Autoplay using Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

Read this article, especially the "How to selectively disable specific Autorun features" section:
