DPM 2012 - Install Failed, can't uninstall. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Installed DPM 2012, it auto-installed MSSQL 2008 R2, no problem.

Ran windows updates to the latest versions (as of 4/10/2013).

    DPM Services won't start correctly.

After much work to try getting it working, decided to just uninstall and start over.

    Uninstall of DPM
Programs and Features >> right-click System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM) >>click Uninstall/Change.

    Get's this message:

"An unexpected error occurred during the installation. For more details, check the DPM Setup error logs. ID 4387"

    Any clues?

    Hi David,

You really only have two options here:

Option #1 You can try what MVP Robert Hedblom suggests in this thread:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/dataprotectionmanager/thread/d3b422bd-8457-418b-bf20-08193bf09f69/

Option #2 If that does not work it will be quicker to rebuild the OS and reinstall DPM.

I would recommended going right for Option #2.

  • So can we ask Microsoft to put on the install process. "Don't install on currently be used production systems, because there is a good chance it will ill-reversibly break and not be usable."

This probably has been reported since at least the 2010 release and still not resolved.

So much for us replacing our backup system with the Microsoft solution. It can't be trusted.
