After restoring Project Server Databases and provisioning new PWA instance, URL shows old value RRS feed

  • Question

  • We recently restored our Production Project Server databases to a test environment and provisioned a TEST PWA using those databases. Now, the WSS_SERVER_URL in MSP_WEB_APPLICATIONS shows the original value (i.e. the production url).

How do we correct this so that it has the TEST PWA instance?

We have Project Server 2010 June 2012 CU applied.

    Thank you.

  • Because we got failures in the Bulk Update, we were unable to resolve the issue with that method. To resolve the issue, we finally had to manually update the record in the MSP_WEB_APPLICATIONS table. (it isn't a preferred approach, but all other attempts failed)

    Thank you

    Hi Jim,

When you navigate to Central Admin>>>Manage Service Application>>Project Server Service Application

What do you see as provisioned site old site or new site?

When TEST Site was provisioned, did you use 4 project dbs as well as content Db from production?

Are you using host header option during PWA site provisioning in TEST?

  • From our System Admin:

What do you see as provisioned site old site or new site?

TEST site (not the PROD URL)

When TEST Site was provisioned, did you use 4 project dbs as well as content Db from production?

Yes.  Backups of all four PROD Project Server DB’s and the PROD Project Server content DB were attached to the TEST SQL servers.  The four DB’s were attached to a shared SQL instance and the content DB was attached to the SharePoint SQL instance.  This is the same configuration that is present in PROD.

Are you using host header option during PWA site provisioning in TEST?

No.  PWA is not provisioned at the root of the web app.

  • We have run the bulk update and all sites there show the proper address.

The web applications that show in the New Site Path list include a number of applications - all from our test environment

The Previous Site Path values show the production path only.

  • Jim,

Which database are you looking at for " WSS_SERVER_URL in MSP_WEB_APPLICATIONS shows the original value ".

  • We only find MSP_WEB_APPLICATIONS in the Published database.

There are two entries in that database. One is associated to all the projects, the other is associated to NONE of the projects.

We've attempted to re-run the bulk site edit, but now get errors:

    GeneralQueueJobFailed (26000) - UpdateProjectSitePath.UpdateProjectSitePathMessage. Details: id='26000' name='GeneralQueueJobFailed' uid='6ef83694-69b0-40df-882b-2255c67e1c49' JobUID='cb5b39ae-edd2-4f9e-80a2-def79ee9e60c' ComputerName='EDCWSPAD013V' GroupType='UpdateProjectSitePath' MessageType='UpdateProjectSitePathMessage' MessageId='1' Stage=''. For more details, check the ULS logs on machine EDCWSPAD013V for entries with JobUID cb5b39ae-edd2-4f9e-80a2-def79ee9e60c.

These related to errors in the ULS log indicating that the site name is already in use.

  • exec MSP_WEB_PWS_ReadProjectSiteBaseUrls

-The above SP will provide the WSS_SERVER_URL involved in the specific PWA instance, which means some of the projects are having the old server WSTS_Server_UID

-Check the status in msp_projects to get the clear picture.

    select WSTS_SERVER_UID from msp_projects

-If you are able to run the "Bulk update" and map the projects with the corresponding project sites, then there will be no issues

-Need to set the new values for the "WSTS_SERVER_UID" and "WSS_SERVER_URL" to get the appropriate URLs in the bulk update page, otherwise ignore these entries if there is no issues.
