FAILURE ( 5456 ): Unable to determine Destination Disk, Partition, and/or Drive. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Making my first attempt to capture user state and keep running into the same error. I'm following the sample in the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Samples Guide that I downloaded with MDT 2013. Any hints on where to look for the cause of this would be greatly appreciated.

  • I think there is a disconnect here.

If you are trying to capture user settings (as in the replace task sequence), please don't *START* the task sequence from within WinPE.

Instead, while you are in the old OS, launch Litetouch directly, and select the Task sequence:

    From an elevated command prompt:

    net use * \\ponyo\mdtdeploy$ /u:ad.okstate.edu\XxxxX XXXXX

    cscript.exe \\ponyo\mdtdeploy$\scripts\litetouch.vbs

if you wish, you can even pass command line parameters in through the command line:

    net use * \\ponyo\mdtdeploy$ /u:ad.okstate.edu\XxxxX XXXXX

    cscript.exe \\ponyo\mdtdeploy$\scripts\litetouch.wsf /TaskSequenceID:Win7_x64_capUsr /DeploymentType:Replace /USerDataLocation:\\ponyo\userstatecapture$ /XXXXXXX

Do not initiate the Replace Task Sequence from within WinPE.

  • Not enough context here to understand what you are trying to accomplish.

Can you copy the bdd.log file to a public site like OneDrive, and post the link here?

    Keith,

I haven't re-read the documentation yet, but I tried as you suggested and was able to capture user data without any problem. Thank you!

That being said, isn't it possible to capture user data, deploy an image and then restore the user data in one TS? Would that also require that it launch from the old OS?
