Forefront Server MP Generating Phantom Alerts? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just imported the ForeFront Server MP and I've noticed a flurry of event alerts every morning at around 1:02 AM. I get two alerts that repeat themselves about 30 times over 2-3 seconds.

EngineUpdatesW - Looks in the Application log for Event IDs 7003 or 6014
EnginesOutOfDaveW - Looks in the Application Log for Event IDs 7006

The curious thing is that I didn't see any of these events around or near this time. Where the heck could these alerts be coming from?

  • Hi Sandy

My experience is that the Forefront MP is very poor and very noisy - I don't install it these days. Maybe someone from MSFT can advise when (if) an update will be available. Others may have had better experiences than me so perhaps they can chip in with how they went about fine tuning it.

    Cheers

  • Did you get this before Forefront MP too? I just want to make sure if it is the forefront MP or forefront itself that generates all these events.

  • No, the behavior started after importing the Microsoft.Forefront.Exchange.SP1 (Converted) MP. It may be Forefront itself too I suppose. I'm getting ready to apply newly released SP2 for Forefront Security for Exchange Servers - maybe this could fix the issue too.....

By the way, is there an updated MP Guide somewhere for this MP? I've searched and could only find the MP for OpsMgr 2005.

  • Forefront MP is indeed terrible. Nothing like a MP warning alert to tell you that 'at least half of the engines are up to date'. I know MS feels obligated to include a MP for their own Enterprise products and they should. But putting out trash like this is insulting to customers and only wastes our time.
