  • Hi ianbt7,

Based on my understanding, your computer failed configuring updates. Right? Please try the following methods to solve this issue:

Method 1: Run Windows Update troubleshooter.

Windows Update troubleshooter makes sure that your computer is connected to the Internet, and checks to see whether your network adapter and Windows Update services are running correctly. For your information, please review this article Open the Windows Update troubleshooter to learn how to use this tool:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter

Method 2: Reset Windows Update components.

For your information, please review this KB article How do I reset Windows Update components? to reset the Windows Update components and check if it helps:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Method 3: Download and run System Update Readiness Tool.

System Update Readiness Tool can fix errors that occur when you use Windows Update. This tool scans for inconsistencies on your computer and fixes them as it is being installed. For your information, please review this KB article to download and run this tool:

     http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555461

For your information, please review this KB article Unable to install Windows updates to get more help:

                http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555461

In addition, it would be helpful for future troubleshooting if you could help to collect the following information:

    1. Did Windows Update work well before? If so, what did you do after it worked well last time? For example, installed some software or changed some settings.
    2. Have you done some troubleshooting? For example, run sfc /scannow. If so, please tell us what you have done and the results to help us collect more useful information.

    Regards,

    Lany Zhang
