Stop User creation of Content Types RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a SharePoint 2013 Content Type Hub that is administered by our Information Mangement staff. We have created a structured design of Content Types and they are published to the site collections. Everything was working well until some users started creating their own content types at the site level. We are now running into conflicts.

How do we turn off the users' ability to create new content types?

  • I believe in order to create or change content types, a user requires Full Control. So the simplest way to accomplish this is to ensure that users that shouldn't be able to create content types don't have Full Control or Site Collection Admin rights.

  • Thank you. We will run a report to see who has those rights and test the "contribute" users' rights to create Content Types and report back.
