ISCSI SAN as backup location question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I run a domain on the cloud (virtual machnes). I want to back these up (e.g. the cSQL Server dbs etc). If I use software such as Starwind's ISCSI SAN on a VM, would this be a usable backup location?

  • Hi,

Yes, any block level storage can be used in the DPM storage pool.  For a physical DPM server, this would be locally attached disks (ide, scsi, sas), fiber attached SAN LUN, or iSCSI attached SAN LUN. For a virtual DPM server, this would be pass thru disks, or iSCSI attached LUN.  It would be recommended that you have a dedicated network for the iSCSI attached SAN for either a physical or virtual DPM server.
