  • Can anyone suggest me best practice regarding stsadm commands when deploying solution to production environment?.

  • I appreciate you're asking about solutions but a wider consideration might be given to how to use commands, hence my response.

    With the exception of Rashu's link, a lot of these links are all relating to "How to do something", which isn't what is being asked.  The best practice thing is.

    I'd offer up that you need to weigh this against what command you're using.  So, a good point of reference is going to be the WSS 3 STSADM command list.  Take a look here for the actual commands http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc288413(office.12).aspx

    Let me give you an example.  If you were using backup/restore or import/export you'd want to do this out of hours depending on: -

    • Are you working on live data?
    • Does the site need to be locked?
    • How large is the data?

    In those instances, you'd go out of hours.  BUT if you were using the Userrole command to manage groups, than this can be done with no impact to sites performance.
