  • Question

  • Hi

we have installed Sharepoint 2010 on a single server non-domain server following this article: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112 and we are now have issues with the search- whether they are related or not I am not sure. We have got to a point where we really do not want to reinstall Sharepoint so really need to try and find a solution to this. Any help gratefully received. Here is the log:

  • Hi dikp,

The error above is clearly related to the non-domain configuration.
As far as I understand, you are trying to deploy Complete server configuration on a non-Domain machine. This is officially not supported by Microsoft and has not been tested. Only basic install is supported with non-domain accounts.

The specific problem you encounter occur when topology activation job is trying to create a propagation file share.
Hypothetically you can pre-create file share and specify its location by passing it to New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryComponent command in the power shell. However, you are on unsupported grounds here and I can't tell what will break next.

Is there any particular reason you don't configure the box to be a domain controller of its own?

    Thanks,
    Victor

  • Hi Victor

Maybe we should consider making the server a DC! This is a single hosted server at the moment, hence the attempt to configure it as we have. We will try your suggestion and see what happens.

Thanks very much for your reply.

  • Sure. Once you have configured the server as DC, create domain users and use them for all the accounts involved. This should solve your problem.

    Thanks,
    Victor

  • Hi,

there is at least one scenario for installing SP 2010 without domain environment - SP 2010 for Internet Sites.

This product is installed on dedicated web server, so there is no domain environment.

Microsoft should support this scenario, while giving its partners "SP 2010 for Internet Sites" license in Partner Program!!!

  • Did the problem get resolved after joining it to the domain?

Please let me know, we faced a similar problem@!
