Where are applications stored? RRS feed

    Hello,

When I create a new software package for delpoyment I am pointing to a package setup file on a shared drive. My question is, does that package now get stored in the SQL server Database or does it still point to a share? What if that server where the share was is offline, can it still be installed?

If I create a new package will SCE automatically detect if that software has been installed already? Does it install over it? How does it work?

I am trying to move all my software packages from GP to SCE and would like to know some specicifs as to how this all happens.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

When a software is deployed from SCE console, the package will be stored in updateservicespackages folder and package inforamtion will be stored in SQL DB. The clients will contact folder to download needed package.

For MSI application distributed via GPO, the applicability evaluation is based on MSI product code. if the application is already installed on clients, then it is not downloaded and offered.

    HTH.
