  • Hi Ram,

What is the vesrion/Service pack/CU of project server ? Is this PS 2007 or PS 2010?
Did you check the ULS logs to get more details.

Looks like the below Support article describes the similar issue:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2596989

Please let us know more details. Will try to help.

    Thanks,

  • Project Server 2010 with December 2011 CU.

We cannot find detailed error details in the ULS log.

  • I am suprised that there is nothing showing in the ULS logs when this occurs.  How many servers do you have in your farm?  Did you check the ULS logs on all servers?  Without any details, It will not be easy to find the cause of the issue.
Can you please clear out the values of Resource level custom fields from user's account & try re-saving it?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Ram,

Check resource networkID, there should be some problem with the user outside of Project server environment.

Once I was facing the same issue when I was migrating server from PS03 to PS10, for me user was disappeared from AD.

Find the ULS log from the default location (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web
    Server Extensions\14\LOGS
), you can use some ULS log viewer.

    Hope this will help.

  • Hi

From IIS try remove the compression from both “PWA” site and from the “SharePoint Web Services” site and check the behavior.

  •  One thing we have observed is, for the first time it is not saving and pops up with error.

For the second time, it is saving without any issues.

  • Ok, Are you able to re-produce the issue every time you save ? If not, I would say that might be a temporary glitch in system/network.

  • Happy Holidays Ram,

One of the possible causes would be that the resource level custom field might have been deleted in the past and it still has its records in the database.

In order to find the exact cause, I would start capturing SQL profiler trace while re-producing the issue(if you have an access to it) and/or i would enable verbose login in Central Admin for Project Server (all events would be fine for Project Server) and would analyse the ULS logs.

You can also use ULS viewer to capture real time data.

    I hope this helps.

    Happy Troubleshooting.

  • Dear Ram,

Is this error coming to specific user??

Is there any project or task assigned to this user?? If you can delete this user and it will not cause any problem to any project, then better delete this user and create or sync it again.

If project or task is assigned to this user then don’t do this else it will impact to the project.

In other case I will suggest you to change and recheck all the attributes like RCFs, securities and all.

If after all that the error remain same,

*Then go to the database Server and enable the SQL Profiler for your project server Publish database, then edit the user again in the PWA, stop the Profiler trace, then try to find any clue in the profiler script, I am sure you will find something here.

  • Happy New Year Ram,

    Please verify below points,

    1. I strongly feel that something has gone wrong from the Resource Level Custom field front. You've mentioned in your question that Resource Level Custom field was edited recently. By any chance any required Resource Level custom field was deleted or edited?

    2. Like I mentioned before, please try to run the SQL profiler when you re-produce the issue and see what do you get in the profiler output. Our main focus should be getting some information related to resource custom field.

    3. Enable verbose login in Central Admin for Project Server (all events would be fine for Project Server) and analyze the ULS logs of the time when you reproduce the issue. You can also use ULS viewer to capture real time data.

    Thanks,

    Jignesh
