If you already have a script in place then take a look at this where Pete and Raphael discuss the best (most efficient) way of implementing this sort of monitoring so that rather than have the script run twice, once for alerting and once for monitoring, OpsMgr can use "cookdown" - Pete starts about 1hour 15 minutes into the video:

If you are not careful you can end up with lots of scripts running, duplicating workload on the monitored server and ultimately affecting performance. Pete and Raphael show how this can be done much more efficiently.
