    Hey,

    i have created a script based monitor which tells me the number of Excel or Word process that are running in the taskmanager and it alerts me when it reaches above threshold.

    now i would like to create a rule for the same to have a Performance View so that i can monitor the processes in a graph.

    please suggest.

    Hi,
    If you are running R2 there is a management pack template that you can use to monitor no of processes. To get number of processes as performance data you can also use a script, take a look at this example http://contoso.se/blog/?p=213

    If you already have a script in place then take a look at this where Pete and Raphael discuss the best (most efficient) way of implementing this sort of monitoring so that rather than have the script run twice, once for alerting and once for monitoring, OpsMgr can use "cookdown" - Pete starts about 1hour 15 minutes into the video:

    If you are not careful you can end up with lots of scripts running, duplicating workload on the monitored server and ultimately affecting performance. Pete and Raphael show how this can be done much more efficiently.
