SCCM 2012 WSUS error RRS feed

  • Question

  •   I have been working with 2012 in my test environment. I am trying to get updates to work but nothing is listed under Software updates(“No items found”). When I tried to pull up WSUS I receive the following error:

Fatal Error: Cannot start service MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID on computer '.'.

When I follow the log file I see this:

System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID on computer '.'. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The service did not start due to a logon failure

  • It looks like you installed WSUS using the Windows Internal Database (WID) and that the service for the WID is not a happy camper. You should examine this service and troubleshoot why it's not starting.

  • What accounts did you use for SQL Server Agent, SQL Server Database engine, etc. when setting up your SQL server? Sounds like the account is locked out or the pw has changed of the account it is trying to use. Are you able to access SQL Server Management Studio?
