How to configure Exchange Server 2016 so that external contacts can be created, with a alias generic. RRS feed

  • Question

  • How to configure Exchange Server 2016 so that external contacts can be created, with a generic word on the alias, the system can automatically add one number consecutive for each alias.
Each time you add more contacts with the same generic alias, the same system in automatic will be adding additional numbers.

Does anyone know how to set this up?

  • Hi,

Do you mean when you create a mail contact, the alias will be modified automatically if the same alias exists?

Based on my knowledge, no existing commands or parameters support to modify the alias automatically. The same alias is allowed for mail contacts.

When we create a mail contact, we can specify the alias. If we don't use the Alias parameter when use the command to create the mail contact, the value of the Name parameter is used.

  • There's no built-in functionality that will do this, you will have to manually add the number when creating the contact, or script the process via PowerShell.
