  • I get some clues from the following websites:

    How to rebuild icon cache

How to Rebuild the Icon Cache in Windows

How to rebuild icon cache in Windows 8.1

It seems that I have to restart the explorer at least to avoid getting the old cached icon.  Am I right ? I want to get this work on Windows XP and above.

  • Hi,

About your question, I think this website may be helpful, it talks about clear icon cache in win 7 programmatically - execute ie4uinit.exe-ClearIconCache, please check it to find some prompt.

On the other hand, there is a Internet Explorer forum, about C++ code question, I advise you ask for help from our MSDN forum.
