A user does not appear to be able to send a document set to a record centre in SharePoint Online

    Question

  • There does not appear to be anyway to do this. Would appreciate confirmation or a solution.

My scenario is sending from collaboration site collection to record center site collection.  Content types are identical (content type hub)

    So let us assume we could try and do this ;

    1. From a send to connection

    2. From a workflow

    3. With a copy (Modern list experience)

None of these works - see below.

    1. From a send to connection

Send to under ribbon - files tab is greyed out when a document set is selected, this is as per previous versions of SharePoint and still makes no sense since it means that the user has to

Using “Send to other location” from the ellipsis menu does send the document set to the destination Drop Off Library.  Unfortunately, the Document Set remains there as a ZIP under its (Packaged) document type and is never filed by content organiser rules.

    2. From a workflow

    2013 Workflow

    No send to record centre

    2010 Workflow

No send to record centre (Removed in SPOnline)

    3. With a copy (Modern list experience)

It lets you copy the document set to the drop off library but the document set changes to content type folder.  Properties will not allow the content type to be changed and if you click to enter the folder then you get an error.

  • Hi Dave SharePoint,

You could use “Send to other location” function to move a document set to the record center site collection.

When the document sets are sent to the Drop Off library, the Drop Off library will package the document sets as .zip files. After the timer job called 'Content Organizer Processing' which is defaulted to once per day finishes running, the documents sets will be automatically routed to the destination library, and the document sets (packaged) will be automatically expanded back to the document sets in the destination library.

Please confirm whether the rule is working after 24 hours.

    Best regards,

    Linda Zhang

  • Whilst I am surprised that the content organiser job only runs every 24hours (i.e. quite a delay between a user filing a document set and it appearing in record centre) Linda is absolutely correct.
