Role bases access right within one MS-Project planning? RRS feed

  • Question

  • In a project several departments work together to realize electrical installations. Each department has a responsible planner, which maintain some rows of the complete planning

Is it possible in a single planning, with use of MS-Project (server), to add a column named "Department" and grant access rights (update/delete) only to users which are added to this appartment?

    And If yes, how?

First of all, what version of Project Server are you using?  2007, 2010, or 2013?  And if you are using Project Server 2013, is it set up with SharePoint Permissions mode or Project Server Permissions mode?

The answer to your question is no, you cannot accomplish what you want through the use of a column called Department.  If you are using Project Server 2013 in Project Server Permissions mode, you can create a custom Group and Category in PWA to grant access to the projects to your planners.  What you CANNOT do, however, is grant them access rights to ONLY the rows they are allowed to edit or delete.  If one of your planners has access to an enterprise project, he/she has access to the ENTIRE project and can edit anything in the project.

    Hope this helps.
