In-Place Upgrade Blue Screens RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am attempting to do an in-place upgrade of Windows XP SP2.  It copies all the files over to the HDD and then it reboots and starts setup.  It goes through installing devices and then it starts installing the network.  At this point it blue screens and reboots.  It does it so fast that I can't even get the error of the blue screen.  Also, when it tries to reboot, it seems like the MBR is not there because it just hands with a blank screen and the cursor blinking in the upper left corner.  I have to boot up the XP CD and go into 'repair' mode and run FIXMBR to have it reboot again off the hard drive.
