CHILD DOMAIN CONTROLLER AND PARENT DOMAIN CONTROLLER REPLICATION PROBLEM

    Question

  • Hi All,

    I am having this problem in  my Network, I have a parent and child doamin controllers in my forest, the child domain was setup with two domain controllers, and the primary domain controller was also running exchange server.

    This Primary domain controller had crashed, and unfortunately my back up domain controller hasnt beeen connected to the network for about 6months, now since my Primary child domain controller is down and exchange server, i would want to revive this domain controllr that hasnt been replicating for long.

    I have seized the FSMO ROLES on this primary child domain controller and users are able to login but its still getting the old settings of the schema master and domain naming master, and npt able to communicate with the current forest fsmo roles holder.

    How can i go about this so that I can revive this DOmain.

    Thanks in Advance

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,
    Please run NetDOM /query FSMO to check if the FSMO is seized successfully to the new DC.
    And please check the DC and ad replication status by running the following command tools on each DC:
    -> DCDIAG /V /C /D /E /s: dcname > c:\dcdiag.log ,
    -> repadmin.exe /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite > c:\repl.txt
    Best regards,
    Wendy

  • Hi
    primary domain controller was also running exchange server. >>> You should not configure exchange server role on a Domain Controller,you should configure exchange server on a member server.
     If you have a successful backup of this crashed PDC,first try to restore from this backup.
    Otherwise you can try to change fsmo holder with adsiedit,check this article for steps;

    my back up domain controller hasnt beeen connected to the network for about 6months >>> Also check this additional domain controller for tombstone lifetime issue;
