Restore single File to Original location fails - points to deleted protection group RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently reinstalled DPM 2012 SP1 and restored the database.

Trying to restore a single file on a Filer Protection Group.

It is trying to restore to a non-existent location.

We are not using a Cluster any more. It has been deleted for over three years.

The Protection group shows the correct path. Its just the Restore that is not correct. We are using both Data and Tape backups.

Backups work with no errors both to data and to tape.

Is there a way to clean up the DPM SQL DB so it does not try to use this old location for the Restore?

Since the name of the server is the same, it looks like DPM does not know which one to use, so its picking up the deleted one:

    Filer.filecluster.domainname.com

    Filer.domainname.com

The old one (filer.filecluster.domainname.com) is not showing in Inactive Protection.

    This is the error:

    Affected area:    H:\
    Occurred since:    7/28/2014 7:42:53 AM
Description:    The recovery jobs for Volume H:\ that started at Monday, July 28, 2014 7:42:52 AM, with the destination of Filer.filecluster.domainname.com, have completed. Most or all jobs failed to recover the requested data. (ID 3111)
DPM was unable to access the cluster resource group Filer.filecluster.domainname.com for H:\ of protection group Profiles and Documents. Recover the datasource using the alternate location workflow. (ID 32579)
        More information
Recommended action:    Verify that the cluster resource group Filer.filecluster.domainname.com is accessible by using the Cluster Administration console.
On the Jobs tab in the Monitoring tasks area, group jobs by type to view details of the recovery jobs.
        Retry the recovery job...
Resolution:    DPM automatically changes this alert's status to inactive 10 days after it is issued. To dismiss the alert, click below

    Thanks for any help,

    Denise

  • Anyone have any ideas? Microsoft?

I added an alias in DNS to that old cluster location, but that didn't work. Not sure if I would need to create a new A record in DNS and point it to the Filer.

Is there a way to clean up the DPM database to remove old entries of protection groups?
