client migration vs. AD system discovery RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

Question about migrating systems from SCCM 2007.  I have a collection in SCCM 2007 with all the workstations in the company.  I have not yet migrated that collection to the SCCM 2012 environment.  I know that in order for the client push to work and upgrade the clients from 2007 to 2012, I will need to turn on one of the discovery options.  My question is: what is the difference between migrating the collection (so that all the workstations appear in SCCM 2012) and then turning on system discovery to upgrade the client versus not migrating the collection and just running the AD system discovery to discover the clients to upgrade them?

    Thanks

  • Migrating a collection will not migrate members (if the collection rule is WQL based).
It basically does not matter if you migrate the collection. A resource has to be discovered in order to initiate a client push.
