Windows 8.1 - keyboard and mouse won't work in safe mode. RRS feed

  • Question

  • PROBLEM:

Keyboard and mouse both die as soon as Windows 8 installation CD's  'Choose your keyboard layout' screen appears.   I cannot go any further.

DETAILS     My Windows 8.1 installation is OK and ready for Windows 10 update.  I installed a new Wi-Fi driver and the computer 'got into trouble'  but I cannot start in safe mode to restore the system to an earlier date.  Asus told me that this is an OS problem, bios and USB settings are correct.

  • Is your computer a laptop or a desktop? Are you using a wireless keyboard and mouse? If you are using a wireless keyboard and mouse, you can try using a wired USB keyboard or mouse as a test. If you are using a laptop, try plugging an external keyboard/mouse into it as a test.

Take a look at Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode) to boot into safe mode.
