DPM 2010-2012 back up tape inventory issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all!

Searched all over the internet for any possible sollution or at least similar problem. Everything that was found - tried already.

    So to the issue ...

We were using DPM since it`s 2007 and it is good indeed, had some issues here and there, but solved, till the one facing now. Last week DPM 2012 server reported all protection groups status failed on daily incremental/full back up. After tried all possible options with DPM 2010 found on technet forums info about problems with file count on back up storage. Applied all recommended updates, updated clients, tried to update roll back drivers for Tape devices/libraries. Result=0.

Then went for upgrade to 2012 hoping to resolve the issue. Server was set up and configured to run Exchange DAG back up to tape(long) and disk(short). Disk back up succeeded, thou all the atemptst to Inventory tape libraries with back up failed.

    The message:

    Affected area:  (2D9B57BE)
    Occurred since: 8/23/2012 4:13:38 PM
Description: The detailed inventory of tape failed for the following reason: (ID 3316)
The operation failed because of a protection agent failure. (ID 998 Details: Incorrect function (0x80070001))
     More information
    Recommended action: Retry the operation.
     Run tape inventory job again...

After the installation of DPM 2012 and rescan for libraries recieved following warning message:

The number of free tapes in the Tape Library Hewlett Packard D2DBS virtual library  (x64 based) is less than or equals the threshold value of 8. You must add tape to the library and mark it as free in order to prevent future backups from failing. (ID 3305)

    Technical information is the following:

    - HP D2D device used.

    View in DPM:

2 Drives Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium Generic drive + Hewlett Packard D2DBS virtual library  (x64 based)

4 Drives Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium-3 drive + Hewlett Packard D2DBS virtual library  (x64 based)
