Non uniform work distribution in some cases RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

    I wish get your advise. When I set up a task with two ressources A & B. It should last 10d with an effective of 40h.

    If I assign equal work for both ressources, I get a nice work distribution over time whatever the task type (fixed work or fixed duration). But as far as one of the work balance between the two ressources is different than 50%, the ressource which has the lowest workload get an upfront distribution (front loaded) while the the second ressource gets a nice flat distribution.

    e.g.

    A : 10h --> 8h | 2h | 0h | 0h | 0h | 0h | 0h | 0h | 0h | 0h |

    B : 30h --> 3h | 3h | 3h | 3h | 3h | 3h | 3h | 3h | 3h | 3h |

    Is someone able to explain that? And how could I get flat distribution for both?

    PS : i'm using MS project 2013 pro and we have also server version

    Thks for your help

  • Hi AP,

    Can you tell us what are the steps you are doing to change the assignments?

    I just reproduce your case. While creating the task, 10d duration, 40hrs work with 2 resources:

    Then chaning the work (both from task form or task usage) from 20/20 to 10/30 and the contour is still flat (with fixed work and duration). With fixed units, the duartion will change but the contour will still be flat.

    Try to double click on the assignment in the task usage view to check the work contour:

    Hope this helps,
