Recreate Task Sequences? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're using MDT 2013 Update 2 and I want to upgrade to Build 8443.

Do I need to recreate my task sequences after the upgrade?

I would really hate to have to do that.

  • It is generally a good idea to recreate your task sequences in the case where there are changes to the Task Sequence base templates.

Many questions such as where do I find logs and what logs are interesting are found in: MDT TechNet Forum - FAQ & Getting Started Guide Please take the time to read it. Also if you don't post logs your problem won't be easily solved.

  • After you upgrade MDT to the new version, the first time you open the deployment share it will prompt you to upgrade it.  This seems to work fairly well and I have not seen any errors as a result of the process.

  • It appears Task Sequence binaries were updated in Build 8443.

  • I have to recreate my task sequences often and I have found the powershell module for mdt to be very helpful.

If your task sequences are all similar and you have a  lot of customization, you can create one TS manually after upgrading MDT, customize it, then convert it to a TS template. Then run powershell to create more TSs based off that template. It saves a lot of clicking around in the gui.

  • Generally MDT 2013 Update 2 will upgrade quite well to 8443, there may however be some execeptions, so it's not 100% garunteed.
