System Center 2012 Migration Order RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone !

I need help with the following question.

I  have to migrate 3 products to System Center 2012 from their respective early versions in the same costumer. These products are Configuration Manager 2007, Operations Manager 2007, and Service Manager 2010. Like aditional information, it exists an integration of this 3 products through the Service Manager 2010's connectors to the other products.

My question is: What is the migration order to follow? Which is the first product to migrate? Which is the second? Which is the third? Can I migrate the 3 products at the same time?

Inside the Service Manager's documentation (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh519584.aspx), I found the following Warning, but when I do click in the link, this appears as offline (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/LinkId=262694). This article make reference to the SP1 (Beta) of System Center 2012. I looked for the RTM version (The version I have to install), but without results.

I like to know if anyone has official information about this.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hi,

do you have the SCOM or SCCM connector in place?

If yes - than you have to start with SCSM first. Only SCSM 2012 can talk to SCOM 2007 R2 and 2012. Same with SCCM - SCSM 2012 can talk to SCCM 2007 R2/R3 and SCCM 2012.

If you do not have any connectors in place you can start wheter you want. They do not have any dependencies. SCOM 2012 can not monitor (with an Agent installed) SCSM 2012 because of some conflicts. This will be corrected with SC 2012 SP1. Agentless monitoring of SCSM 2012 is currently the recommended way.

Normally we do the following order:

    1. SCSM
    2. SCOM/SCCM (as these products together do not have dependencies)

  • Also, the SCOM2012 console does not work together with SCSM2010 console. Another reason to upgrade SCSM first.
