Migration from Configuration Manager 2012 SP1 on Server 2008r2 to Configuration Manager 1702 on Server 2016 RRS feed

  • Hello Dear Friends,

    I'm trying to find the best practice to move the SCCM 2012 SP1 with wsus role that is Installed in Windows Server 2008R2 with Microsoft SQL 2012 SP1 to new windows server 2016

    what is the best practice steps ?

  • Hi Ariel,

    I think you should follow the below method:

    • Build the new server with 2016 and install all the required patches
    • take the SCCM SQL DB backup of existing SCCM and system backup(Package source files, content lib and prestage files etc., )
    • Shutdown the OLD SCCM server
    • Rename the new server same as OLD(Name, IP and Drive layout must be same)
    • install all per-requisites and SQL, WSUS etc.,
    • restore the SQL data base and run the SCCM 2012 SP1 recovery, once the recovery is completed and replication is active
    • Proceed with 1702 upgrade from ISO.
